Ruth learned to read music at age three by sitting by her sister Helen as she practiced the piano. At age five, she played prelude music for Primary Conference. She played her first professional job as a violinist at age eleven. Ruth was concert mistress of the University of Utah Symphony for three years, and was the highest
seated local violinist in the Utah Symphony during the early Abravanel years. Her compositions won many awards, and include a
cantata; choral works, children’s and popular songs; various arrangements; and solos for piano and violin. Her performing group, The Ruth Gatrell Singers, gave several concerts of her original music each year. Read more
